Southern Thailand main industries are mainly centered
on agriculture, that means rice, rubber, coconut, tropical crops, in the
past tin, and fishing.
If you look after
at and t in Thailand
it's tt and t in the moment they have the best offer in terms of fast
internet, it's worth to have a look to tt and t instead of at and t .
Since about four decades now of course also the tourism industry, which
brought in big money for the locals and naturally foreigners, the Thai
call this white species "farang" which stands somehow for "the big
white". This word farang (spoken.. falang..) you will always hear when
locals talk about you and has no negative meaning, its just a normal
expression.
Southern Thailand is also rich on certain
minerals such as gold, wolfram and some others plus natural gas, but
until now no major industries have been set up to process. Actually
somehow it looks like (beside of tourism) the very southern part of
Thailand where the people are mainly Muslim does not have the real
developing steam behind like many other provinces, this can be seen as
something negative but also has some positive effects.
Songkhla is a fishing port since ancient
times and has recently become the center of the offshore gas business
and exploration in the gulf of Thailand, all the big US companies are
here, since they are the one who have the expertise, like
Unocal,
Halliburton etc. the hotels make good business with the
professionals who are shuttled everyday from the local heliport to the
offshore platforms. It looks like not much from the money created
through this business find the way into the local environment.
In any case southern Thailand industries are for the long
run investment.
