Krabi Thailand, Phang Nga Bay and the Trang archipelago

is one of the premier vacation region on the planet. Flights to Krabi are plenty either domestic or from Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Bangkok to Krabi is also possible by bus from Bangkok and every bigger city in southern Thailand. Travel in Krabi is also by bus and to the islands by boat or Krabi ferry. Phuket to Krabi is a 4 hour bus or car journey or via Phuket ferry to Phi Phi Islands and from there with the Krabi ferry on the mainland. Hat Yai to Krabi is around 300km, it depends which road is used, every road there is excellent, some are 4 lane some are 2 lane. To Phi Phi Islands is via a speed boat from Ao Nang. The pier for Koh Lanta is around 50m south of Krabi town. There are plenty of  , Krabi hotels along the coast and Krabi Islands.

This is not so visible by just hanging around at Krabi beaches but one Krabi beach in particular give a idea what's out there in the Krabi island world, that’s Railay Beach at Ao Nang. Reachable from Ao Nang beach, just in front of the beach road take a long tail boat to Railay Beach west and east, it’s great, see the pictures. A feast for the eyes, several Krabi hotels and resorts are also at Railay Beach aside of the great scenery rock climbing is available up the steep limestone walls mainly at Railay Beach east. Now how to travel to Krabi?

it's very easy and simple, travel in Krabi is either by the Bangkok to Krabi bus, leaving almost every hour during daytime from the southern bus terminal at Bangkok, use the BTS Bangkok to Wongwian Yai station and from there take a taxi, its about 30 minutes with the taxi since traffic is awful around there. Flights Bangkok to Krabi are several

every day, there are also some international flights from Singapore Changi Airport to Krabi and Air Asia from Kuala Lumpur Airport, domestic flights to Krabi are from Bangkok to Krabi by Thai international and other domestic carriers, since this changes with the season it needs to do a check at a given time. Hat Yai to Krabi by bus usually starts about every hour from Krabi town and the ferry from Krabi to Phi Phi leaves also several times per day. Krabi to Koh Phangan, Koh Samui and Surat Thani is the same direction.

Phuket to Krabi

is a great trip via Phang Nga, there are also Krabi to Trang, Krabi to Satun (Ko Tarutao) Buses and plenty of other small and big buses leave Krabi Town every day. Flight from Phuket to Krabi and Phuket to Phi Phi are not available anymore (2010), the company went bankrupt. Cheap Krabi flights are only by Tiger Airways and Air Asia. Krabi airport is also the transfer point for Krabi to Koh Lanta. Koh Lanta is about one hour drive to the ferry pier, about 45 minutes ferry ride until

 Koh Lanta Noi, a short drive to another ferry jetty and about 30 minutes with the ferry to Koh Lanta Yai where all the hotels are. During high season this ferries get crowded and some waiting time should be calculated into. Hotels in Krabi are plenty so are resorts in Krabi, bungalows, cottages, some apartments at Ao Nang and Krabi Town. The most scenic Krabi hotels are at Railay Beach and in several Krabi Islands. Elephant ride at Krabi resorts are a great experience.

Krabi province

is south of Phang Nga Province north of Trang Thailand province and southwest of Phuket in the Andaman Sea. Krabi province includes such well known places as the

Phi Phi islands, Ao Nang Bay

and beach area with Railay Beach to the south, Krabi town to the east and Koh Lanta to the south west . The whole area is very attractive because of the Krabi islands and countless beaches plus a “hinterland” with great nature and great Krabi vacation grounds. At Ao Nang

It’s called Hong island tour because the islands are limestone formations with huge caves inside, over time the top eroded and fell down opening up the cave to the light. This is called a “Hong” means “room” in Thai language, there are plenty of this formations in Krabi Thailand and not only, also at Phang Nga Bay are several and the most famous of this type of limestone cave is in

Trang Thailand province,

it’s called Morakot Cave or Emerald Caves, Trang is adjacent to Krabi Thailand to the south. Inside the open caves are usually small 

beaches with lush tropical jungle around, lots of sea creatures running around, monkeys jumping and huge birds live in the small caves, some of the caves are also packed with bats and birds nest made by cave swiftlets, a type of bird building the nest using the saliva to glue it together, Chinese people love Birds Nest Soup, in particular the guys think something stands up longer after eating the soup.

A smooth ride with a Krabi Sea Kayak is a real attraction, gliding through mangroves, paddling into caves, crossing lagoons and along

limestone canyons it’s a real small Thailand adventure tour.

For a Bangkok to Krabi bus

is a good alternative, takes about 12 hours but a Thailand bus is quite comfortable and reliable, they really travel on time have on board toilet and service one stop is usual around Chumphon.

The same is for Hat Yai to Krabi

 which is less than 300km and is the usual direction leading also to Kuala Lumpur, Penang Malaysia and

Singapore afterwards. As the Krabi map indicates the province has a very diverse nature. There is tropical jungle at the hills, several rivers plenty of islands the turquoise Andaman Sea. Sometimes the Andaman Sea also has a marvelous emerald color it depends more or less on the weather. This diversity makes Krabi Thailand a ideal vacation destination since plenty of trip options are possible.

There are about 50 Krabi islands and countless beaches. The best known Krabi islands are the Phi Phi islands and one of the most famous beach there is Maya Beach.

Probably the most spectacular Krabi beach is Railay Beach as you can see at the pictures on this page. Krabi Thailand is a pure limestone area not like the Similan islands where limestone and granite boulders are mixed.

Koh Lanta

Koh Lanta are actually 2 Krabi islands close to Trang province in southern Thailand. Krabi to Koh Lanta Yai (this is the island where the hotels are) needs two ferry rides which could be a little problem during high season since there are plenty of cars and trucks moving back an forward.

The first Krabi to Lanta ferry

is to Lanta Noi (means small) and the second ferry is to Lanta Yai (means big). From Krabi town and Krabi Airport minibuses and taxis are available; an alternative could be to hire a small motor bike in Krabi town and travel to Koh Lanta, a good 125cc bike is around Baht 150,- per day. There is also a speedboat from Ao Nang to Saladan on Koh Lanta for about baht 1200,-.

Ferry service are also available between Phuket - Phi Phi – Koh Lanta Lanta and back. On Lanta Noi is no serious accommodation and actually also nothing attractive to have a look for. Lanta Yai is somehow a big hill with a ring road on the slopes plus some beaches on the west side.

Koh Lanta is not much developed

but unfortunately the good beaches are blocked by hotels. All good Koh Lanta beaches are located on the west side some are somehow also accessible by a dirt road along the waterside.

Koh Lanta Noi

Krabi weather is warm throughout the year it won’t matter when you travel to Krabi, most of the time its between 20 degrees C and around 32 C, a warm holiday destination ideal for the people of the northern half of the globe. There is amusement, if you like adventure, go diving, cave exploration, make a boat tour through the Andaman Sea, do some sea kayaking or maybe trekking in the jungle which is covering huge tracts of the hills in Krabi province.

Several Buddhist temples and pagodas

indicated the religion and culture, there are coconut and rubber plantations plus tropical forest and a stunning landscape formed by bizarre limestone formations in the sea and on land. Most of Krabi province is dedicated to tourism aside of some agriculture unfortunately, there are plenty of people from northern Thailand who come to this southern Thailand province on a hit and run idea, considering tourist as ATM machines with 2 legs. Stay away from people who try to approach you and want to sell all kind of things and services.

The great Krabi islands, beaches and beach resorts

are the main tourist attractions. Aside of the caves with at Ao Luk with prehistoric cave paintings no need to look for ancient monuments, no museums, only some contemporary art galleries. Krabi is here and now, have a great time ay the beaches and enjoy the nature and take a sun bath. Tourism is at the sea shore only a few tourists find their way into Krabi province behind the coast.
