Koh Ang Thong Marine Park

- Ang Thong Marine National Park Thailand is close to Ko Samui in the Gulf of Thailand

comprising of 40 limestone islands most with white pristine beaches in a tropical dream vacation setting. Activities are kayaking, snorkeling and scuba diving; there is no accommodation on any of the islands. On the great Koh Samui trip to Ang Thong marine they will pick you up in the morning and carry you to the pier where you get some breakfast. You will board a speedboat and after around 1 hour you are at Ang Thong Park. A alternative would be to go use a larger passenger vessel to Ang Thong Marine National Park, it’s cheaper but takes longer.

The main island is Ko Wua Talap, there is a lookout and  visible from there is a great panorama you can see in the Ang Thong Park pictures below. At the beach starts a climb trek which is a real challenge, it takes about 500 meter upwards over rocks, sometimes you pull yourself up on the robes, wear orderly shoes and if possible wear gloves since the rocks have sharp edges and you also have a better grip on the rope. It seems that the Thai military made this climb course since the area was under the control of the Thai Navy until it became a national park in1980. Before the Navy took over the archipelago was a hideout for pirates. Some small animals are around such as wild pigs, snakes, macaques, cats and other four leg creatures. Usually you wont see in the limestone caves are swift lets, the nests are harvested to make bird’s nest soup.

Ang Thong means “golden basin” in English and has been quite untouched because of the presence of the pirates and the Thai Navy after for a long time. The Ang Thong Park is a great spot for tropical island vacation  with the limitations indicated above.
